    Born on August 26, , saxophonist Branford Marsalis is the eldest son of Dolores Marsalis and piano legend Ellis Marsalis. Like many jazz giants before him, Branford studied at NOCCA and Berklee College of music in Boston before taking to the road. He would explore jazz in the raw with the likes of Lionel Hampton and Clark Terry before joining his brother (Wynton) with the Art Blakey Jazz Messengers in Branford would continue further exploration with his brother&#;s original quintet, while also finding time to tour and record with Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis.

    Marsalis was born on August 26, , in New Orleans.[1] He is the son of Dolores (née Ferdinand), a jazz singer and substitute teacher, and Ellis Louis Marsalis, Jr., a pianist and music professor.[2][3] His brothers Jason Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, and Delfeayo Marsalis are also jazz musicians.
