Sam M. Freas Jr., 80, of Hughestown passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Gino Merli Center, Scranton.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Sam and Ann Giger Freas Sr.
He attended Pittston Township schools.
Sam served in the United States military during the Korean War.
He was the former owner and operator of S&S Auto Repair, Old Forge.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Duryea.
Sam was a member of American Legion Post 585, Duryea.
He was the manager of the Silver Tones, a band that played in local clubs throughout the valley for the past 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Helen Mattei Freas.
Surviving are his brother, Joseph Freas and his wife, Audrey, California; sister, Betty Orlando, Hughestown; sister, Mary Ann Bieryla, Moosic; brother, John Freas and his wife, Diane, Duryea; uncle, Thomas Freas, Pittston; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m.
