It’s important to remember that I’m a working opera singer, and as such I do take breaks from teaching to fulfill opera and concert contracts. Among other engagements, last October 2013 I sang my first Verdi Requiem with the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble. In January 2014, I sang Isolde in a concert of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde in Montclair, NJ with Opera Theatre Montclair, with heldentenor John Packard as Tristan and conducted by Maestro David Gilbert. I also sang the Berlioz’ Le morte de Cleopatre with the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble in March 2014, and made my Broadway debut as the wife of famous football coach Bum Phillips, in a rock opera entitled Bum Phillips All American Opera at the LaMama Experimental Theatre in the Village the same month. The rehearsals for all of these engagements were designed not to conflict with my teaching schedule, and I did not miss a class all of last season.
I have been singing all my life, and can even prove it with a professional recording of when I was not yet three years old! At 18 months old, I was “The Littlest Clown,” tap dancing and singing in a children’s theatre troupe, The Clown Arounds, created by my parents.
