Professor Helen Weinstein is the founding Director of Historyworks, where she is the Creative Director working closely with Jon Calver, the Technical Director, alongside colleagues in the Historyworks team to produce public engagement activities and multi-media products.
Helen is a leader in public engagement with a long track record of helping academics translate their research for wider audiences working in partnership with broadcasters, museums, archives, libraries, galleries, heritage sites, schools and universities, voluntary organizations and community groups. She has made over 80 documentaries for BBC Radio and for Television, and consults on a wide range of series for adults and also for children. For four years Helen has been the Advisor on the BBC Editorial Review Board for History.
Helen is a Life Fellow at Clare Hall, and Advisor for the Doctoral Training Programme in the Humanities at the University of Cambridge, guiding academics and students for public engagement activities, specializing in coaching them in participatory practices with partner organizations and in shaping ideas suitable for sharing research with wider audiences especially media broadcasts, digital trails, and heritage interpretations. Helene E. Weinstein (born September 6, 1952)[1] is an American politician who represented District 41 in the New York State Assembly, which comprises Sheepshead Bay, Flatlands, East Flatbush, Midwood and Canarsie, in Brookyn.
Biography
[edit]First elected in 1980, Weinstein chaired the Assembly's Ways and Means Committee and is a member of the standing committees on Aging, Codes, Rules . She previously chaired the Assembly Committee on Governmental Employees, Election law and Judiciary. And the Assembly Task Force on Women's Issues for seven years.
Weinstein chairs the Assembly Standing Committee on Judiciary. She is the first woman in New York State's history to be appointed to this position. The Judiciary Committee presides over virtually all legislation affecting the state's judicial system, Family and Domestic Relations Law, Trusts and Estates, as well as civil practice in the courts. Weinstein has sponsored major reforms in the state's jury system and is the leading proponent of ensuring civil legal services for low-income New Yorkers. Weinstein led the successful effort to increase 18B and Law Guardian rates. Weinstein is also a member of the Court Facilities Capital Review Board.
