We are left with the question of how we track, measure, and appreciate our years?

When Elsa Sevilla was enrolled in Chicano Studies at San Diego State University 30 years ago, she wanted to know far more about the first people inhabiting California than her time in class allowed.
How did they live, hunt, harvest plants for food and medicine? How did they find and use water and what was the role of fire? She had questions about the impact of arriving European explorers, colonization and the spread of Catholic missions throughout California.
In 2008, after a career at KGTV Channel 10, Sevilla merged her insatiable curiosity and quest to discover San Diego’s “roots” with her passion for story telling by creating, producing and hosting a documentary series for KPBS called “Historic Places with Elsa Sevilla.”
With the 250th anniversary of the birth of San Diego and California approaching in 2019, she and her husband, KPBS Photography Director Guillermo Sevilla, now are embarking on a special project — a five-episode series on California history to air on KPBS.
The couple recently received a go-ahead on the $350,000, three-year production and have a kick-off fundraiser set for Sept. 21 at the San Diego History Center which, along with KPBS, is Sevilla Productions’ partner in the series.
