  • Alleged gunman in Decena ambush IDs masterminds, seeks govt protection

Fearing for his own life, a Marikina policeman, who allegedly acted as gunman in the failed assassination of businesswoman Cristina Decena, has decided to testify against the masterminds of the attack.

This was according to Decena, who accompanied suspect PO1 Henry Quinones Monday night at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) headquarters in Manila to execute his sworn statement identifying the people behind the supposed slay plot.

Decena is set to visit the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday to have Quinones subscribe to his affidavit, as well as apply for government protection.

“Pinapapatay na rin daw kasi siya. Hindi niya alam kung saan siya pupunta so humingi siya ng tulong sa NBI at ikinuwento niya lahat," said Decena when asked what convinced the policeman to confess to the crime.

Decena was with her maid and her son Danilo, who was driving their vehicle, during the ambush that occurred in broad daylight on August 14 last year. Only the maid was hurt due to the shattered glass from the window of their vehicle.

Quinones was arrested along with Edgardo Vinalla in a government-run hostel later that month, but both initially denied the allegations.

Raj placed as fourth runner-up in 59th Miss Universe pageant, where she is known for her answer "Major Major".

    Early life and education

    [edit]

Maria Venus Bayonito Raj was born in Doha, Qatar, to an Indian-American father and a Filipino mother, the youngest of five children. She came to the Philippines while still an infant and was raised in Bato, Camarines Sur.[4][5]

For the first two decades of her life, Raj lived in a nipa hut made of wood, bamboo and anahaw leaves, with no electricity, in the middle of a sprawling rice field. She allegedly used rice paddy dikes for her early training, where she eventually developed her distinctive walk.
